Updates: Life & Health

It has been a while since I have blogged! Four months! And that was something I drafted a few months prior to that. [[haha]]

Let’s just call a spade a spade and admit that it’s been a year since I have posted on the blog with any kind of regularity. I would like to start posting again, but the trouble is always in whether or not I have time and energy for other things.

A lot of it comes down to just choosing what you’d like to do. I’ve been on Twitter, The Fediverse, and doing other things, but I’ve also had health things happening.

For the most part, it’s been due to health. Around a year ago I started having extremely severe health problems which have led me on a pretty bad up-and-down.

The short version is as follows:

  • I had big blood clots in/on both lungs
  • I didn’t know, until I fell and the ambulance had to come get me
  • Hospitalized for a few days
  • Placed on blood thinners
  • After that, the most recent attempt at placing vascular access (which we had written off just a few days before) reopened and we were able to start using it. Thereafter, the graft, which is of a special type, has gone down again every 2-3 months. This means I still have a catheter in my chest, so I can still get the plasma exchange treatments, but it’s annoying.

The most recent big event is the graft has clotted once more and my normal surgeon has asked me not to come back, forcing me to (really long story) go to Phoenix on a day when it was 115˚ and meet with a new surgeon and schedule a new operation, this time, on what was supposed to be my first scheduled day of vacation.

I’ve made my compromise and I’m going to reschedule my vacation, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t really annoyed about all of this.

Ideally, watch out for more dispatches in this space.
