Quick Update

Inspired more than just a little bit by my friend Deanna, and interested in getting back into this habit, I have decided to write a little bit about my personal life, on this here blog. In respect of that decision, here's a quick update!

The past month or so are what I would say have been "turbulent" – in that not only did I move (to a garage), but I moved on from a pretty long term relationship, may accidentally have killed a friendship, and have just generally been doing the summer routine of "surviving."

Let me go through the things in order, I suppose.

I moved, to a garage, about a mile and a half from campus, maybe a little bit more. It's a long walk that took about 45 minutes at first and now takes about 30 if I'm feeling bored enough to go fast on purpose. The garage is a lot nicer than you'd think. The floor is tile and by the time the last of the six of us in the house moves in, I will finally mop it. The indication is that it is probably not actually going to get very cold in here in winter, and if the heat my four modern computers can make is any indication at all, even if it gets chilly, there really won't be any problems.

After that, of course comes the relationship, which I've covered before. Neither of us was that good at the distance thing, and a few other things came into play. The friendship, I don't even know and out of respect for a situation I may actually be misreading, I'm not going to say anything.

It's worth noting that I decided to take some classes this summer. I am taking two of them, so I was able to pay for them, but I've been having problems keeping up. It turns out not all summer classes are of the kind where the instructor says "well, to fit our truncated version of the class, we're going to truncate the content and project." Instead, my class (of five people, the smallest I've had at NAU so far) is doing all of the content normally involved in the sixteen-week version of the class, but we're doing it really really fast. Additionally, this means like "Oh I'll do it later" is an attitude that is completely incompatible with this class. Unfortunately, instead of writing this post, there are about a dozen other things I should be doing (most of which, yes, are higher priority, but still.)

We'll see what the next session brings. That class is purportedly less writing-focused, but might still be pretty intense.

The surviving thing is the same routine as every summer out here. I either lived very comfortably or made some horrible purchasing mistakes in the Spring and haven't got very much of a buffer. The phrase that people living in the real world is living "paycheck to paycheck." I'm doing just a little bit better than that, but the worst weeks are yet to come.

In summation: I live in a garage; I walk a lot; summer classes are haaaaaard.
