2012-07-02: Song of the Week!

As I understand it, I'm actually sort of behind on the whole Karmin thing, but I recently heard one of their songs and had mis-identified it as a Katy Perry song. So, let's just start out with "Brokenhearted" by Karmin.

And then let's look at the Internet Culture Database! They're a couple, engaged, names are Amy and Nick, and were previously known for their covers of other songs. There's not much more wildly interesting biographical information though. I'm sure it's there, I'm sure it's interesting to their fans, but...

I like one or two of their songs, but their style isn't my favorite, on their first album they've got one or two other songs, and then like eight songs I just don't like.

One of the other songs that's really fun happens to be "Crash Your Party"

I actually feel bad for having the overall impression of "I don't like it" because both of them are good vocalists, as seen in one of their older covers, of Sara Bareilles' "King of Anything." They also make pretty funny youtube-star style videos. It's actually fun to see some of their older stuff and compare it to their current, "professional" stuff.

I like their take on a lot of modern pop songs that I enjoy, such as "Only Girl in the World" originally by Rihanna.

And what's life without a good Ke$ha cover?

I would even argue that they do a really good Adele cover.

So anyway -- that's Karmin. They do great covers, and one or two of their original songs are great, but I don't really reccomend grabbing the album unless you can preview it with Spotify or a Zune pass or something like that.
