Preparing for NaNoWriMo

I'm not going to lie. I'm way behind on my thought process for NaNoWriMo this year. I got caught up in an attempt to blog every day of the month (which has clearly failed) and then some of the other administrative stuff I've been working on, not to mention my playing a bit more WoW lately.

Anyway, I have given it some thought and I'm thinking that my best strategy choice might be to start making some decisions about what I want to happen. I want to try something set in space again, so that my main characters can visit different worlds. There are several elements to a space story to manage, and I think one of the reasons I gave up fairly early on last time I tried it was because I had absolutely no concept of what I was doing other than a particular character, an opening line, and an extremely vague setting of "space."

With that in mind, I've been looking a bit at TV Tropes to see what the various things I can do are. I have yet to decide if I'm writing about an alliance or centralized faction, or a rebellious or decentralized faction, or if we're just talking about something like a unified humanity that had to leave the Earth for whatever reason. It's possible this will even turn into a story of the creation of the rebellion/decentralization faction.

One of the things I hope to do in the next few days (who knows if it'll happen of course) is get a few of the details set up and the beginning details of a plot set up. I'm going for a win this year. Also, if anybody is interested in the statistics of their own writing, be sure to check out my 30-day Writing Tracker.
