Tacgnol

This is the home page to Stenoweb.

The ThinkPad X24, tacgnol, was acquiredfrom eBay in late 2008. Until June 2009, it held the role of secondary mobility power, and loaner machine. From that point forward, it served as the primary web server for stenoweb.net as well as my primary remote shell environment for screen and IRC logging.

Events

Events may need to be re-typed for formatting consistency.

  • 2013-02-22: With keskivikko's disk and a maximum of 640 megabytes of memory, tacgnol continues to be quite slow. It was recycled along with keskiviikko.
  • 2013-02-07: I swapped tacgnol's 256mb stick of memory for a 512mb stick of memory from a 1000MHz PowerBook G4. tacgnol now has 640mb of memory.
  • 2011: installed Windows Vista and a 160GB disk inherited from vorlaeufer.
  • 2010-02-22: Tacgnol, still running Ubuntu 9.10, has continued to be fairly unstable, falling on its face for whatever reason once every few weeks, sometimes in as little as a few days after initially being booted.
    • It is being used as  agraphical terminal to flatdell by opening an xterm login session, opening an ssh-X connection to flatdell, and then launching the command gnome-session. It works out moderately well.
    • Upgrades or replacement parts have been considered for tacgnol.
      • Replacing the disk with either a new one, or one of the solid state variety.
      • Memory upgrades have also been pondered to bring the machine to its maximum amount of memory, 640MB.
    • Also under consideration is the potential replacement for tacgnol as a bedputer or ultra-mobile computer.
  • 2009-11-16: Tacgnol's new installation of ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala" is complete and its new life as a bedside/loaner/superportable computer has resumed.

Upcoming Concerns

Tacgnol was ultimately replaced by nachibes, a ThinkPad X31 that immediately fell into the shellbox role.

I pretty clearly need a shell-box that's not an ultraportable laptop.
